Guideline 4.3 — Spam and Duplicate Apps
Apple believes your app is one of many near-identical apps, or too close to something you or someone else already publishes. This is one of the hardest rejections to clear because it is a judgement about your concept, not a bug.
What the rejection usually says
We found that your app provides the same feature set as other apps submitted to the App Store.
Creating multiple similar apps places an unnecessary burden on the App Store.
Wording varies between reviewers; the substance does not.
Why it gets triggered
- You publish several apps that share a codebase and differ mainly in content or branding.
- The app is built from a template that many other developers also submitted.
- The category is saturated with functionally identical apps — flashlights, QR scanners, simple wrappers.
- The listing reads like a variation on an existing app rather than something distinct.
How to fix it
1.Consolidate, do not multiply
If you shipped several near-identical apps, merge them into one with the variations as in-app content. Apple states this preference explicitly.
2.Make the difference substantive
A different colour scheme is not differentiation. A different data source, workflow or audience is. Then say so plainly in the description.
3.Move beyond the template
If you used a template or app builder, the UI and feature set need real work before resubmission.
4.Appeal with evidence when it is wrong
If the app genuinely is distinct, reply through Resolution Center with a concrete comparison: what your app does that the ones they matched do not.
A reply you can adapt
Short, specific, and stating what changed — reviewers read hundreds of these.
We understand the concern. This app is not a re-skin: it targets a different workflow, and we have consolidated our previously separate titles into this single app with the variants as in-app options. The description now states the specific use case it serves.
AppSubmit does this for your app, specifically
Paste the rejection and the decoder reads it against your actual listing, build and release history — then writes the fix plan and drafts the reply. It also watches your submissions, so the next rejection reaches you as a notification rather than a surprise.
